Entry-Level Disability Determination Examiner
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Medicaid Services (DMS) is currently recruiting to fill several Entry-Level Disability Determination Examiner positions in the Disability Determination Bureau (DDB) in Madison, WI. DDB is located at 1400 E. Washington Avenue in Madison, WI.
**Position Summary:** With comprehensive training and under close, progressing to limited, supervision of a Unit Supervisor, an Entry-Level Disability Determination Examiner will learn, develop and apply knowledge and skills in order to carry out disability evaluation of Initial Adult claim applications for disability benefits under Titles II, XVI, and XIX of the Social Security Act and Amendments. Casework is performed electronically with very few done in paper format. The Entry-Level Examiner will show increasing independence and accuracy in case documentation, assessment of impairment severity and determination of eligibility under the law, amendments and regulations. Ongoing mastery of caseload management in an effective, timely and cost efficient manner will be a significant aspect of this position. Extensive reading and work with electronic medical and evidentiary records is required.
**Special Notes:**
Due to the nature of the position, all applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to go through a complete federal background investigation. A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to Social Security disability data, records, and systems.
A minimally qualified applicant will have:
* Work experience and/or postsecondary education in reviewing, analyzing, evaluating, and researching information, such as policies, statutes, laws, academic papers and journals, medical or legal records etc.
* Work experience and/or postsecondary education in summarizing information, and formulating and supporting conclusions in writing. Examples of written documents could include issue papers, research papers, case summaries, theses, white papers, etc.
* Work experience and/or postsecondary education in independently setting and managing priorities to meet deadlines. Tasks could include prioritizing work, creating a schedule, using strategies to monitor progress and plan steps to completion, managing a caseload which was evaluated on accuracy, timeliness and production, etc.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, adjusting communication style to the appropriate audience.
A well-qualified applicant will also have:
* Work experience and/or college or postsecondary education in a medical, healthcare, or psychological related field, including work experience with Social Security Disability claims.
* Completion of a postsecondary degree program (bachelor's, master's, etc.)
